Coming soon: connect your banks, KiwiSaver and investments — CSV import works today.

How it works

Set up in an evening. Check in once a week.

No more copying numbers out of internet banking. JamJar does the sorting, so your weekly money check takes minutes, not a Sunday afternoon.

1

Bring in your transactions

Upload CSV statements from your bank — live, read-only bank feeds via Akahu are coming soon. Transactions are cleaned up and categorised automatically.

2

Fill your jars

Give each category a weekly or monthly amount — rent, groceries, fuel, kids’ sport. JamJar converts between the two so the numbers always line up.

3

Check in each week

See what’s left to spend, what’s running over, which bills are coming, and do a quick weekly review with your partner.

What you get

Everything your budget spreadsheet wished it could do.

A year behind and a year ahead, in one grid

Your budget becomes a cash flow forecast, with up to 12 months of real spending alongside. Drill from Spend type › Category › Merchant, edit any forecast cell, and “Apply from here” to carry it forward.

  • Week-by-week or month-by-month, with opening and closing balances
  • Budget column with 3- and 12-month averages
  • Loans follow their repayment schedules

Snap a receipt — it finds the payment

Take a photo or pick a PDF. JamJar reads the shop, total, date and items, matches the receipt to the right bank transaction and attaches it. Paid cash? Add it as a cash spend in a couple of taps.

  • Allows for tips and surcharges
  • Not in the bank yet? It waits and checks again
  • Undo if it picked the wrong one

Find the subscriptions you forgot about — and cancel them

JamJar spots charges that repeat and shows what each costs per year. Mark each one Keep, Review or Cancelled, and follow the “How to cancel” guide for 40+ popular streaming, music, software, gaming and AI services.

  • Yearly cost at a glance
  • “Charged again” warning if a cancelled one comes back
  • A running total of what you’ve cancelled

Your stuff and your cover, sorted

Keep a register of the things you’d claim for — photos of the item, the receipt and the label, warranty dates and replacement values (clearly marked as estimates). Upload an insurance policy and JamJar reads the details for you to check.

  • Warranty and renewal reminders
  • Compare your belongings with your contents cover
  • A claim pack with photos and receipts, ready to send

Mortgages and build loans, worked out properly

Balances update from your repayments, with a payoff date for every loan and a heads-up before a fixed rate ends. Building or renovating? Add planned drawdowns and see what your repayments will rise to — and when.

  • Payoff projections and interest still to pay
  • Drawdowns flow straight into the forecast
  • Track a build or reno as its own project
Add planned drawdown sheet showing the repayment rising from $2,480 to $3,050

Spreadsheet budgets

Weekly, fortnightly or monthly per line, on one editable grid — paste straight from Excel.

Merchants

Your top shops, what’s climbing, merchant budgets — and merge the bank’s messy names.

Bills & fixed costs

A bill calendar, your fixed costs per month, and move one due date when you need to.

Undo & Face ID

Undo on almost every change, and sign in with Face ID or a passkey.

Questions

What is JamJar?

JamJar is a budgeting app for New Zealand households. It brings in your transactions, sorts them by Spend type › Category › Merchant, and shows how much is left in each part of your budget this week and this month. It also forecasts your cash flow a year ahead, matches receipts to payments, and keeps track of bills, subscriptions, your mortgage and other loans, savings goals, belongings and insurance.

Can I sign up now?

Not yet. We’re opening JamJar to a small group of early users first. Join the early-access list and we’ll email you when there’s a spot.

Is it safe to connect my bank?

Live bank feeds are coming soon. When they arrive, bank connections will go through Akahu, a New Zealand open-finance provider. JamJar will only ask for read-only access — it can see transactions and balances, but it can’t move money or make payments. You never give us your internet-banking password. See Security & privacy for more.

Which banks are supported?

Live bank feeds are coming soon. They’ll come through Akahu, which connects to ANZ, ASB, BNZ, Kiwibank, Westpac, TSB, The Co-operative Bank, Heartland, NZHL, SBS and Rabobank; KiwiSaver and investment providers Booster, Fisher Funds, Generate, Milford Asset Management, Simplicity, Superlife, Pie Funds KiwiSaver, Sharesies, Hatch, Kernel Wealth, Stake and Sharesight; plus American Express, Latitude (Gem Visa) and Wise. Banks and cards bring in transactions; KiwiSaver and investment providers show balances and holdings for your net worth, not transactions. Until then — and any time you prefer — you can upload CSV statements exported from internet banking. See the full list.

Weekly or monthly — which does it use?

Both. Set each category weekly or monthly, whichever matches how you’re paid and how the bill arrives, and JamJar converts between them (52 weeks ÷ 12 months). You can view your budget week by week or month by month.

How much will it cost?

Founding members — anyone who joins before our public launch — pay NZ$99 a year or NZ$9.99 a month, locked in for as long as they stay subscribed. From public launch the standard price is NZ$169 a year or NZ$16.99 a month. Every plan starts with a free 14-day trial, no card required, and all prices include GST. See Pricing.
